Traveling abroad is always an adventure and at times may be a little confusing.  At our  Costa Rica Surf Camp we want you to get the most out of your surf vacation in Costa Rica and here are few quick tips to make your travels easier and safer.

First traveling tip, pack your bags with clothes necessary for the tropics. If you plan to travel around within Costa Rica there are many different climate zones, it can go from hot and humid on the beach to cold, rainy, and foggy in the mountains. Bring the essentials, your favorite sunscreen, a small camera so you can remember the good times, good hiking or comfortable shoes that you don’t mind to getting wet, small flash light, and a hooded rain jacket.

Have a copy of your passport and visa stamp on you at all times, make sure to keep it separate from your original passport in your room. If the establishment has a safe, put your original passport, credit cards and any other personal valuable items inside safe. Better safe than sorry right!

The next tip is staying hydrated. The best way to enjoy your trip to the fullest is drinking water continually. Specially, if you are surfing or doing other activities in the sun. The first sign of dehydration is a headache, that often causes diarrhea and fatigue. If one does get to this point, it is important to stop physical activity, get out of the sun, find a cool spot and drink lots liquids; water, sport drinks or a local natural alternative, coconut water, which is the best choice and you can find it pretty much anywhere at the beach.

The final tip is never surf alone. As good as it feels to have all the fun waves for yourself, it’s important to have someone nearby in case you have some trouble. It’s highly recommended to take a surf lesson or hire a surf guide when going to surf a new spot. The surf school will give you valuable advice and important local acknowledge about the area. There is always something to learn when surfing a new break.
